Post Oak Community Cemetery

The Post Oak Cemetery, formerly known as the Post Oak Evangelical Cemetery, is very special to me. Almost everyone buried on this cemetery is related to me, or connected in some way or another. The land was donated by 2 of my relatives, each giving one acre of land. On the east side, the land was donated by my great great grandfather, Gottlob Brietzke. On the west side, the land was donated by my great grand uncle, Julius Schievelbein.

The cemetery is located on what is now known as Hartfield Road in southern Guadalupe County, just west of the intersection with FM539.

The first grave was that of Julius Radatz. He was a young man when he drowned in Ernst Vorpahl's stock tank in 1888.

Both the Brietzke and the Schievelbein families belonged to the Post Oak Zion Evangelical church located near the intersection of FM 467 and FM 539. They donated the land for the cemetery to their church. Originally the burial ground was meant for church members only, but later it was opened to the community, with church members allowed free burial and others had to pay a nominal fee.
